Sign it in blood, just not yours

I hear a lot of good talk.

I hear a lot of people saying they want to do something different.

I hear words like “I’ve always wanted to, I dream about, I always thought that I could…”

I hear words of wanting change, to be the change.

But to be very honest I’m not seeing the follow through. I see a lot of good intentions but without the commitment, without an plan with purpose, without the sacrifice needed to see it through I have to doubt it is going to happen. I see it in individuals, families, churches, and communities.

And it’s not because we’re evil but we are essentially lazy people. We just are. Leave us in one spot too long and we have roots filled with inertia, and fear, and lack of vision, and contentment with the status quo. Pretty soon our lives revolve our favorite TV show schedule. Our hind ends are glued to our couches. Instead of hearing ourselves say, “I think I could be the difference, I really want to help, to do something more with the life I’ve been given” we try to justify our current commitment with “I can just not possibly fit another thing in my schedule.”

We can’t waste this life we’ve been given. Do we want to look back over our life and be able to quote every line from Downtown Abbey or do we want to look back with no regrets with what we ate, drank, how we spent our time and money, or who we invested our lives and love.

Proverbs 16:3 says

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

If you find you have no time, turn off the TV and Word with Friends. I’m going to say it even for me, if you have no time step away from *gasp twitter and facebook. Decide what you want to do, commit it to paper, and sign it with blood, just not yours.

Commit those plans, whether to eat right, exercise, connect with friends, serve in your church, reach out to your community, CHANGE THE WORLD, whatever it is you want to do but have convinced yourself that you can not possibly do one more thing…commit those plans to the Lord and he will find he way for you. He says he will give you the desire of your heart. He says his burden is light. He says through him all things are possible. He says we can do all things through Him. He says we are more than conquerors.  He says he is the truth, the light, and the way.

You can trust in his faithfulness and his promises to accomplish the things you care about the most.

So put down the remote and let’s go for it.
